‘Through my dedication I could mentor many designers who are creative directors today’
The textile and fashion technology master on things of significance and taste
What is your personal style?
My style is eclectic, it’s a blend of vintage and modern aesthetic. It is collected rather than overly curated. I love mixing vintage pieces with modern tailoring, luxury investments with unexpected affordable finds. Everything has to feel lived-in , and never too precious or too perfect.
What is the most special item in your wardrobe?
Japanese-made, Harris Tweed outerwear.
Who are your fashion heroes?
Not many, just a few: Ralph Lauren, Rei Kawakubo, Jenna Lyons and Alessandro Michele.
What are your most favourite holiday destinations?

I gave my mother Manorama Mehta a couple of Banarasi sarees that were more than 100 years old and a 150-year-old Kimono.
What was the last thing you bought for yourself?
I bought a few Goyards in burgandy, black, and green. And also Dries Van Noten scarves and perfumes.

Do you remember a time when you were happiest?
Yes. Two weeks ago when I was with my partner in crime in London.
What is your greatest achievement?
It’s not a destination. When I got into the industry there weren’t any designers working in textile mills as everyone wanted to have a label. But through my dedication, resilience and perseverance I could mentor many many designers, who are creative directors today in leading fashion companies across the country and overseas. And that is very rewarding for me.

I don’t believe in these terms, I believe in moving through life-cycles that keep evolving.

I don’t use Spotify, I’m on iTunes. I have Geeta Dutt, Giorgio Moroder, Mina (Italian), Donna Summer, and Hotel Costes.
